Bookout , Martha Jean HallmanMartha Jean Hallman Bookout, age 81, was born on February 17, 1936 in Ashland, Clay County, Alabama to Ruby Loma Hill Hallman and Hubert Hallman Sr., passed away on May 29, 2017. Martha is preceded in death by her husband, John G. Bookout; her parents, Hubert Hallman Sr. and Ruby Loma Hallman Cook and her sister, Edna Mae Willis. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Julie (Bruce) Johnson of Gulf Breeze, FL; Jana (Stephen) Edgington of Charleston, SC; and Janet (Len) Stirrat of Havana, FL.; her grandchildren, Alexander and Zachary Stavrakis, Ashlen Edgington (Josh) Pagano and Victoria Edgington, Tyler and Martha Stirrat; her great grandson, John Bryant Stavrakis; her brothers and sisters, Billy Ralph (Estelle) Hallman, Ruby Jo Benson, Hubert (Carol) Hallman, Jr., Linda Walker, Betty (Billy) Hicks, and Larry (Diane) Hallman. Sisters-in-Law: Jennifer (Bill) McAllister and Jeannine Bookout and special Caregivers, Sheryl Lendo, Michelle Weaver, Paige Wysner and Karen Rueger.Martha was active supporting church and civic activities throughout her life and carried with her the friendships forged through service. Likewise she was dedicated to support her husband's service throughout his civilian and military careers. They were involved with organizations such as Kiwanis, Rotary, The Salvation Army, Red Cross, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, The University of Alabama, and many, many others. Their outreach was broad with Woodmen of the World. She embraced volunteerism as an essential part of her life as a Christian woman. Her hands were never idle and she could be counted on to pitch in whenever a need was presented to her. Every gesture from providing a meal to a family in need to working as a hospital volunteer she did with grace and humility. The family received friends on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 10:30 to 11:30 am with a Celebration of Martha's Life that began at 11:30 am at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Burial followed at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Memorial donations may be designated to Missions at First Baptist Church, Montgomery Alabama.
