Mathis, Martha MaryWith great sadness, we share that Martha Mary Mathis, of Downingtown, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at her home with family by her side. She was 77 years old. Daughter of the late Leo and Elnor Merrill Schnurbusch, Martha was born on August 1, 1939 in Binghamton and lived in Conklin.Family was always at the center of Martha's life. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John B. Mathis, their five children: Michelle (Scotty) of West Chester, PA, Michael (Desiree) of Wernersville, PA, Mark (Charlene) of Wayne, PA, Paul (Jessica) of Harrisburg, PA, and Andrew (Bernadette) of Downingtown, PA. A doting grandma, Martha leaves 9 grandchildren: Nicole, Kristina, Melissa, Gina, Caroline, Erin, Drew, Stephen and Ryan. She is also survived by many loving brothers in law and sisters in law from New York and Florida as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Martha is predeceased by two brothers, Leo Schnurbusch and Joseph Schnurbusch.A longtime parishioner of Saint Philip and James Parish in Exton, PA and a current parishioner of Saint Elizabeth Parish in Chester Springs, PA, Martha had a passion for helping others. For many years, she worked as a volunteer at Camilla Hall in Immaculata, PA, the Convent Home and Healthcare Center of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She was also a longtime volunteer at Saint John Vianney Center where she supported Catholic clergy, and other religious men and women. Viewings will be held on Sunday, March 26th from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E Lancaster Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 10:30 am on Monday, March 27th at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 120 St. Elizabeth Dr., Chester Springs, PA 19425. Interment will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 E.
