She graduated from Central Normal College in 1943 with a degree in Business Education. She married Richard Don Evans, her college sweetheart in 1946. After moving to Attica Indiana, Martha began working for Attica Consolidated High School as a business education and Latin teacher. Martha and Richard welcomed three children into their home and Martha taught them the love of learning, good manners, appropriate dress, and the value of being hospitable to all guests, in a Christ centered home. Her children and grandchildren remember her as being "mom" to all strays; a mother who encouraged them to pursue their dreams and to be true to themselves and to those around them.Faith was at the center of Martha's life. As her life's mission led her from Indiana to Ohio to Texas, she made establishing her church family a top priority.
