Martha Washington COMPTON Obituary

Mar 24, 1920 - Jul 16, 2015

This obituary is administered by:
Martha Washington Compton passed away peacefully from natural causes into the arms of Jesus on July 16, 2015. She was born on March 24,1920 in Boston, Massachusetts. Married to Robert J. Compton Jr. on September 11, 1948 in Pine Grove, California. Survived by her son Robert ( Rae Ann ) and grandsons Adam J. Compton ( Arwen ), Joshua J. Compton ( Emily ) and great-grandson Evander J. Compton. Martha accepted Jesus as her savior in 1967 (John 3:16 ) from that point on she strove her best to follow God, believing in Proverbs 1:7. She diligently studied the bible daily to obey 2 Timothy 2:15. At the time of her death she had literally worn out several bibles. Martha also devoted herself to prayer to comply with Colossians 4:2. She know God would hear her prayers ( 1 John 5:15 ). That God did hear her prayers and answered them many can attest to. Widowed in 1979 her income was reduced to a small monthly pittance. With this she gave sacrificially (Luke 21:2.4 ) supporting many ministries and charities in her effort to abide by Luke 16:9. Though afflicted with many illnesses and disabilities she soldiered on living out Phillipians 4:11. She did not let them limit or restrict her activities. As a testament to God's grace ( Deuteronomy 5:33 ) she went on to outlive all of her siblings and many of her nieces and nephews and at the time of her death was still living independently. Always desiring to please the Lord in her witness Martha adhered to Colossians 4:6 and 1 Corinthians 13:1. That she succeeded in this can be seen by the comments received by her family from relatives, friends and acquaintances when they become aware of her passing. They could only be likened to comparing her to Proverbs 31 -30. She indeed was the embodiment of Romans 12:14-18. Mother, you never wrote poetry or any great novel. You were never a celebrated public figure. You were never an adored actress. Your life will never be published in any widely read biography. Aside from your family and friends your passing will be but a slight breeze upon the winds of this world. You were, however, a living testimony to a loving God! When Jesus greeted you it was with this sentence"'...well done good and faithful servant; ... enter thou into the joy of the Lord." If I could but follow - just a little - in your footsteps down the path you trod, I know God would indeed be pleased. I look forward to our reunion in heaven. Remembrances can be made in Martha's name to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. A family Memorial Service to honor Martha will be held at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery In Dixon, California after the placement of her headstone.
