Marthanor (Hutter) Hargrove ToteJanuary 14, 1935October 29, 2016Our Mother, Marthanor (Hutter) Hargrove Tote, passed away at home morning of October 29, 2016 with her huge family at her side. She was born on January 14, 1935 to Ruth and Nicholas Hutter of Ouray, Colorado. Marty attended school in Ouray and graduated along with lifelong friends "The Dirty Dozen" in 1953. That same year she moved to Reno with her first husband Bill Hargrove to start a family. She finished business school in Reno. She was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother and cherished her family. She was the hardest working woman you would ever meet, holding multiple positions to keep her children in their home and fed. Her work ethic was admirable and passed down to all her kids. She was a fantastic cook but preferred to work in the kitchen alone sending her kids outside to play. She loved most the times when all her children and grandchildren were together. This happened three times a year; Mexican Dinner Night, on Halloween when our Mom made a huge vat of chili to fuel the kids for trick or treating and on Christmas Eve In addition to being a homemaker and a wonderful cook, she worked outside the home in the casino industry, sold Avon for 20 years and retired from the WCSD after working at Dilworth Middle School for 30 years. Marty was an intelligent and strong woman, always willing to share her wit and her ornery opinion. This is what people will miss most about her as we speak with friends and family. She was a force in this world and was not afraid to speak her mind and have some fun. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her as Marty, Old Bird, Mart, Martha, Marty Fo Farty or Mrs. Tote. Those of us that call her Mom and Grandma will miss her most and we go on with the knowledge that she wanted only for our happiness. She is survived by a small village; her children: Cleo (Joe) Nady, John (Susan) Hargrove, Andy (Kimberley) Hargrove, Willie (Reva) Hargrove, Bob (Marti) Tote, Carie Jo (Jeff) Gundersen, Christine Silsby and Jo Anna Tote. This hardworking steadfast woman leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great- great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beautiful sister, Trudie Gilkey of Mt. View, California and a myriad of extended family. She is survived Pat, Jean, Carol and Karen her good pals from Dilworth. She was preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings and her husband, Ralph Joseph Tote.A celebration of Marty's life will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at 1 pm at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Reno. The family would like to send a special thanks to her caregiver Sylvia Woods for the compassionate, sweet care she showed our Mother.
