Martin A. Wyka Obituary

Aug 16, 1929 - Apr 07, 2011

This obituary is administered by:
Wyka, Martin A. Martin "Marty", "Mart", passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 in Boise, ID. He was born on August 16, 1929 in Springfield, MO to Martin and Arvilla (Tucker) Wyka. He was the second of three children: his sister Bobbie, the oldest; brother Donald, the youngest, who was adopted. All have preceded Martin in passing. He is survived by his daughter Karen W. Kapral, son-in-law David P. Kapral; and granddaughter Kristine S. Kapral. The family moved to the St. Louis Missouri area when Martin was about two years young. In September 1947, Martin met lovely Arlene Larson. They were engaged on New Year's Eve on December 1947 and were married on October 23, 1948. Martin felt it was a marriage blessed in heaven that spanned over 62 years. On October 21, 1954 Arlene and Martin were overjoyed when Arlene gave birth to a beautiful daughter that they named Karen Marie. She was to be their only child. Martin was employed by Union Electric Company (later renamed Ameren) in St. Louis, Missouri on September 23, 1948 as a file clerk. He took advantage of the Company's Tuition Assistance Program and attended night college at Washington University in St. Louis. The schooling took several years including a two-year delay while he served in the United States Army. Martin graduated with "Final Honors", receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Business and Accounting. In 1972 he was promoted to Supervisor of Income and Other Taxes. Even though some times in his career were very trying, Martin enjoyed the interaction with auditors who audited the company's federal income tax returns every two years. In the early 1980's he was promoted to Manager of the Property Accounting Department and appointed to the General Executive Staff; retiring from that position on July 1, 1990 after 42 years of service. Martin was inducted into the United States Army on January 29, 1952. Following basic training at Fort Riley, KS, he was assigned to the Army Finance School in Indianapolis, IN. Upon completion of the schooling, he was assigned as an instructor at the Army Finance School. He finished his military service at the Fort Buchanan Army Finance Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico and was released from active duty on December 30, 1953. His goals following retirement were 3-fold: spend a lot of time with Arlene; play golf; and bowling. He and Arlene relocated to Sun City West, AZ in August 1990 enjoying those goals and traveled extensively in the West until Arlene had a stroke in November 2004. She also contracted Parkinson's disease and Martin devoted his efforts and time to her care until she passed away April 7, 2011. In May 2012, Martin relocated to Boise, ID at the invitation of Karen's family. He not only loved being a member of the Kapral family but also enjoyed the many friendships he made as a member of the Holy Apostles Catholic Church family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 6300 N. Meridian Road, Meridian, ID. Ennichement will follow mass with his wife Arlene at the Holy Apostles Catholic Church Columbarium.
