Flavin, Sister MartinSister Martin Flavin, age 94, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.The former Eileen Frances Flavin was born on February 26, 1922 in Delaware, Ohio, daughter of the late Martin and Genevieve (Griffin) Flavin. She entered the Convent in 1940 and professed her vows in 1943. Sister Martin earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; a Masters Degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska; and a Ph. D from the University of Madison, Wisconsin. Sister Martin was a teacher at St. Therese, Appleton, Sacred Heart, Oshkosh, St. John, Antigo and Catholic Memorial, Waukesha, all of Wisconsin; Catholic Central, West Point, Nebraska; faculty member at Silver Lake College and Director of Development of Silver Lake College, and as a helper as needed at Cathedral in Honolulu, Hawaii. She also served as Vice President and Advisor to the President of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sponsored Ministries, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Since 2016 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; one brother and sister-in-law: Robert (Virginia) Flavin, nieces nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Martin and Genevieve (Griffin) Flavin and a sister: Sister Miriam Genevieve Flavin.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Friends may also call Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
