Martin Mendez Sr. BARABOO-Martin Mendez Sr., 68, of Baraboo, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Martin was born on April 28, 1946 in Crystal City, Texas, the son of Indelecio and Amada (Gomez) Mendez. On Sept. 24, 1966, he was united in marriage to Shirley Zeis at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Waterford. Martin worked for the State of Wisconsin at the Southern Wisconsin Center in Racine County for over 30 years. In his spare time, he was a taxidermist and also enjoyed artwork and carving. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley; two children, Mona Rae Mendez of Almond and Marty (Sharon) Mendez Jr. of Lyndon Station; two grandchildren, Meghan and Maxwell Mendez; a sister, Anita Mendoza of Dallas, Texas; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Mendez; and two sisters, Belia Flores and Santa Tores. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 304 East St., in Baraboo. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
