He was a very seminal figure of the Protestant Reformation

Martin Luther, 72, of Wittenberg, Saxony-Anhalt, passed on September 12, 2023. Martin was born on November 10, 1950. He studied at the University of Erfurt and in 1505 decided to join a monastic order, becoming an Augustinian friar. He was ordained in 1507, began teaching at the University of Wittenberg and in 1512 was made a doctor of theology. His belief in justification by faith led him to question the Catholic Church's practices of self-indulgence. He objected not only to the church's greed but to the very idea of indulgences. He also did not believe that the Catholic Church had the power to pardon people sins. He started the Reformation by putting his 95 thesis statement on the front of the Catholic Church's doors. He is known as the man that founded what is known to this day as the Protestant Church's around the world.
