Martin W. "Wes" Smith1943 - 2015Martin W. "Wes" Smith, 72, of Spring Grove, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at his home.He was born on April 20, 1943, in Chicago to John and Helen (Szatko) Smith.Wes was a lifelong resident of Spring Grove. He graduated from Richmond High School. After HighSchool Wes spent four years proudly serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his tour of duty he became a heavy equipment operator and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150.Wes enjoyed cooking, he loved fishing in the Chain OLakes and Lake Geneva. After retiring he also spent many winters in Arkansas fishing. Wes was a loving dad, grampa, brother and uncle. His country, family and friends were most important to him.Survived by his son, Greg (Stephanie Grubs) Smith; grandchildren, Ethan and Summer; sisters, Marian Smith and Dolores (the late Glen) Renehan; and a nephew, John Renehan.Wes was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Thompson SpringGrove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL.A Celebration Service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at 4 p.m.Inurnment will be private.Memorials to the American Veterans association @ www.avetsfoundation.org or the American Legion @ www.legion.org would be greatly appreciated by the family.To send flowers or an online condolence to the family of Wes Smith please visit our Tribute Store at www.thompsonspringgrove.com or call the funeral home at 815-675-0550.
