Marvel Ann Drummond-Mason was born December 12th, 1945 in Gloucester, Virginia to Robert and Lessie Drummond. She was their second daughter. While residing in Virginia, Marvel attended T.C. Walker Elementary School until their family moved to New York for better opportunities. Marvel and her family moved to St. Albans in Queens where they lived, worked, and played softball. Marvel attended J.H.S. 192 and later Andrew Jackson High School.
She later married Robert Turhan Mason and her first child, Yolanda Mason was born. Twin boys soon followed one year later. Eventually, the family moved to Corona where Marvel began working at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center where she remained until she retired. During her career there, Marva was a tireless, hard worker who enjoyed making the patients' care her priority. She treated them with kindness, patience, and birthday parties. She went far above and beyond her duties.
It wasn´t enough for Marvel to just raise her children, and work at her job. She added foster parent to her resume. This angel welcomed multiple baby boys into her home. All were difficult cases that she nursed and nurtured back to health. All her boys were able to be reunited with their natural families. Later, she adopted 3 children from the same family so they wouldn´t be separated. She raised them to adulthood while feeding neighbors who lived alone and also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.
Marvel eventually relocated to Georgia with her granddaughter and mother purchasing their homes. Marvel continued her self-sacrificing attitude of helping others until she was called home to be reunited with her sister Sandra, and father, Robert. Marva, we miss our mother, our sister, our grandmother, our daughter, our aunt, our friend. Only you could be you. Unique, wonderful, beautiful you. Thank you for your strength, your wisdom, and your generous love. Nobody did it better.
