Hebel, Marvin E.Marvin E. Hebel, 80, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Hospice Home of Hope, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.He was born on August 24, 1937, in Poynette, Wisconsin, a son of Edward H. and Nettie L. (Hutchinson) Hebel. He graduated from Poynette High School, where he was active in football, drama, and chorus activities. His years in barbershop quartet brought much pleasure, singing at 4H events, school, and community events.Marvin joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard during high school and served for four years.He met Dea Unke through 4H activities and on July 20, 1957, they were married in Arlington, Wisconsin. They lived in the Poynette area until 1990, then transferring jobs, they relocated to Fond du Lac. Deer hunting was an annual event with the sons, and in 2004, grandson, Joshua, joined them. They met friends at Governor Dodge State Park, hunted, and enjoyed hot chili and meatball stew at noon. What memorable times they had!Marvin worked for the State of Wisconsin for 35 years, retiring in 2000. As a maintenance mechanic, he taught his children many things that translated into skills for later years. He often did projects for friends and neighbors as well.He was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Fond du Lac.Each grandchild and great-grandchild, joining the family, brought a special joy! Visits with them brought much happiness to him. Spending family time together was the highlight of any day and all holidays.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dea; four children: Debra (Douglas) Smith of Hartford, Stewart (LeAnn) Hebel of Janesville, Steven (Lori) Hebel of Janesville, and Stacy (Carmen) Hebel of Fond du Lac; four grandchildren: Holly (Jonathan) Crye of West Bend, Amy Garvey of Hartford, Joshua Hebel of New Berlin, and Syndria (Andrew) Frion of Altoona; step-granddaughter, Kahla Schwebke of Pittsburgh; three great-grandchildren: Syntariah Frion, Liam Crye, Carson Frion; two step-grandchildren: Brian and Onalisa; sister-in-law: Kay (Dale) Waugh of Green Bay; a brother-in-law, Jim (Karen) Barnes of Prairie du Chien; and other nieces, nephews, and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elayne Wendt; his in-laws, Ivan and Viola Unke; a sister-in-law, Janice Barnes; three infant grandchildren; and a great-grandson, Owen Andrew Crye.VISITATION: The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20 North Marr Street, Fond du Lac.SERVICE: The funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Covenant United Methodist Church with Rev. Joel Deaner-Rogers officiating.Cremation will follow traditional services with burial at a later date in Garden Bluff Cemetery, Lodi, Wisconsin.In lieu of flowers, family will direct memorials to Hospice Home of Hope, U.W.
