Marvin H. Johnson, 89, passed away on January 29, 2013 at Kittitas Valley Health & Rehab in Ellensburg, WA. He was born on January 17, 1924 in Ellensburg, WA to H.P. and Lillie May Snapp Johnson.Marvin grew up in the Kittitas Valley. He graduated from Kittitas High School in Kittitas, WA in 1942. After high school he worked for 8 years at the Washington State Patrol as a radio operator and issued Driver's Licenses. After that he sold Insurance, managed the Kittitas Hardware Store, sold farm equipment and built pole buildings for Clerf Equipment. Marvin finished his career by starting his own company, Johnson Pole Builders, as a building contractor building hundreds of pole buildings, garages and shops until he retired in 1995 at the age of 72.Marvin married Ava Lee Barton in 1967 in Coeur d'Alene, ID. They were happily married for 46 years. Marvin was a member of the Ellensburg Church of the Nazarene.He enjoyed going fishing, with his close friend Dr. Tran Pasa, and loved salmon fishing on charter boats at Westport, WA. He caught a 42 pound king salmon and along with friends was featured in a brochure advertising the charter company.Even though Marvin had Polio as an 8 month old baby, it didn't stop him from being active in the community. He was a member of the Kittitas Lions Club, Kittitas School Board, Kittitas City Council and the Kittitas Valley Community Hospital Board. He also served as Mayor of the City of Kittitas for 1 ½ terms.Marvin was preceded in death by his brother Robert Johnson, father H.P. Johnson, and mother Lillie Snapp Johnson. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Ava Lee of Kittitas, his daughter Lynette Johnson of Kittitas, WA, his brothers; Roland (Carolyn) Johnson of Omak, WA, brother Jack (Kathy) Johnson of Kittitas, WA, and also numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.A memorial service will be held at New Life Assembly, Main St., Kittitas, WA, on Saturday, February 9th at 2:00pm.
