Mary Johnson, born on January 1, 1948, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away on April 10, 2023, at the age of 75. She lived her entire life in Saint Paul and was a beloved member of her community.
Mary was born to John and Elizabeth Johnson, and she was the youngest of five siblings. Despite her parents' limited means, Mary received a good education and was an excellent student. She graduated from high school in 1966 and went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where she majored in English and graduated with honors in 1970.
After graduation, Mary began working as a teacher in the Saint Paul Public Schools. She became known as a dedicated and compassionate educator who worked tirelessly to help her students succeed. Her impact on the education community in Saint Paul was wide-ranging, and she was instrumental in developing many programs and initiatives that helped students of all backgrounds and abilities.
Mary was also an active member of her church, where she volunteered her time and energy to help those in need. She was particularly devoted to advocating for the rights of children, and her advocacy work made a real difference in the lives of many young people. Mary will be remembered as a kind, caring, and compassionate person who always put others before herself.
Outside of work and church, Mary had a few hobbies that brought her great joy. She enjoyed gardening and spent many hours tending to her flower beds. She was also an avid reader and loved nothing more than getting lost in a good book. Her gentle spirit and warm smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Margaret and Alice, and her brother, Thomas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William. Mary's passing is a great loss for her family, friends, and the Saint Paul community, but her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created.
A memorial service to honor Mary's life will be held at the Saint Paul Cathedral on April 20, 2023, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation or the church's children's ministry.
