Mary Ann Clemmons, 74, of Newark New Jersey, was called home on Thursday, February 02, 2017. Mary Ann or " Mama May" as most like to call her was born to Sydney Scott, and Georgenie Maynard Scott, May 10, 1942 in Durham, North Carolina.
Mary Ann relocated to Newark in the mid-fifties where she attended Newark Public Schools and graduated from South Side High in Newark in 1960. A few years later Mary Ann met and fell in love with her late husband of 47 years, Thomas Clemmons. Togehter they built a family and raised 8 children.
Mama May's house was always open for the neighbor children where she often fed and sometimes even disciplined them. She treated everyone as if they where her own. Mama May was famous for her summertime cook outs. She was also known for the way she spoke her mind and didnt have a problem telling you when you were wrong. She'll always be remembered saying, " I'm only telling you 'cause I love you."
Mary Ann worked at the Newark Municpal Court Office of Public Records for 40 years until she retired in 2012. Being a devoted christian Mary Ann was a dedicatied memeber of Williams Chapel Baptist Chruch where she was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people.
Mary Ann is survived by 8 children: Thomas Clemmons Jr. (Cynithia Clemmons), Pamela Clemmons-Reid (Tyrone Reid), Jamillah Clemmons, Micheal Clemmons, Genell Clemmons, Staci Williams (Adam williams), Tawana Clemmons (Eric Washington), and Katherine Clemmons (Omar Hutchins). She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings, a host of nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann is proceeded in death by her parents, late husband, and her grandsons, Micheal Clemmons and Dajuan Fields.
