GODFREY - Mary Catherine "Kay" Johnson Gebben, 78, passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey after a battle with kidney disease.
She was born on January 5, 1938, in Alton, the daughter of Harold and Alice (Conley) Johnson.
Mary met her husband of 58 years, Adrian B. Gebben, in high school. They married on February 15, 1958, at St. Mary's Church in Alton, Illinois. He survives.
Mary graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1955. She worked as a receptionist for Drs. Wedig, Elliot, Worcester, & Gross and as a secretary for Consolidated Envelope Company. She was a homemaker for many years, which included babysitting her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ursuline Convent Auxiliary. Mary loved to garden. She always had beautiful flowers and plants both inside and outside of her home. She also enjoyed painting and spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Diana) Gebben of St. Charles, Missouri, Daniel (Phyllis) Gebben of Alton, and Steven (Christina) Gebben of Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Elaine (John) Grove of Godfrey; eleven grandchildren, Alexandria (John) Thompson, Victoria (Brandon) Oliver, Colton Gebben, Michael (Jessica) and Brian Gebben, Nicholas, Adam, and Emily Gebben, Caitlin, Megan, and Renata Grove; five great-grandchildren, Trenton, Clara, Olivia, Lily, and Macie; two sisters, Alice Ruyle and Sharon Thorpe; one nephew, Tim (Julie) Ruyle; one niece, Barb (Brian) Hale.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with Deacon Bill Kessler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey.
