DeTroye, MaryMary Louise DeTroye, 88, of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center. Mary was born on August 15, 1929, in Town of Lima, WI, daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence (Bloemers) Kappers. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1947 and attended Sheboygan Falls Normal School to attain a teaching certificate. Upon completion, she taught at Horace Mann School.Mary married Lauren DeTroye at the home of her parents on June 7, 1950. She was a dedicated homemaker and helped her husband start a new business, DeTroye Electric Service.Mary was an active member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg. She was a charter member of the Oostburg Rescue Squad as a registered EMT. She continued to enjoy her gifts of quilting, sewing, embroidery which she distinguished herself with in her teen years as she received a number of national and state awards. Her children all have fond memories of Mary spending many Sunday evenings playing the organ with her husband singing by her side. Mary had the opportunity to travel with Lauren extensively and made many blessed memories together on their motorcycle and with their fifth wheel.Mary had the blessing of being an honorable and faithful wife and mother. She was always a very thoughtful, selfless mother as she exampled the woman of Proverbs 31 to her family of 6 children, 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren.Mary is survived by her four daughters, Patricia (Christopher) Lillie of Marietta, GA, Jean (Richard) Young of Saratoga, CA, Laurna (Thomas) Simmonds of Boise, ID, Kathryn (Jeffrey) Dykstra of Cascade; two sons, Ronald (Pamela) DeTroye of Oostburg, Robert (Melinda) DeTroye of Johnson City, TN; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey (David) Dolfin of Oostburg, Kathryn Rauwerdink of Sheboygan Falls; and a brother, Lawrence (Jean) Kappers of Oostburg.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Florence Kappers; her husband, Lauren DeTroye. Brother and sister-in- law, Harold and Mary Kappers; brother-in-law, Warren Rauwerdink; and great granddaughter Adelaide De Troye.A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Wednesday November 1, at 11am at the Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Oostburg with Rev Dave Veldhorst officiating. A burial will take place at Oostburg Cemetery.Relatives and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Homes in Oostburg on Tuesday October 31, 4pm- 8pm and again on Wednesday at the CHURCH from 10am until the time of service at 11am.A memorial fund is being established in her name for Oostburg Christian School and Sharon S.
