Mary E. BankesMALTA: Mary E. Bankes, 89 of Malta, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Highland Oaks Nursing Home in McConnelsville. She was born on July 13, 1924 in Stockport, Ohio to the late Jesse and Mable Wood Hayes. She graduated from the Windsor High School in Stockport and then briefly attended The
Ohio State University. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the Stockport Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Triadelphia Grange. She was an avid collector of Flow Blue China and a founding member of the International Association of Flow Blue Collectors. She married her husband, Carleton Bankes in 1950 and moved to Columbus where she worked for the City of Columbus Public Schools and raised her family. In 1980 Mary and Carleton returned to Morgan County to enjoy a long and happy retirement. She is survived by three sons, Steven (Elizabeth) Bankes of Miami, Florida, Michael (Joan) Bankes of Newark and Philip Bankes of Malta; one daughter, Kathy (Chris) Armentrout of Logan; one sister, Charlotte Mobley of Westerville; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carleton H. Bankes; two sisters, Dorothy Allard and Mildred (Skeet) Calendine. Services will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville, Ohio with Pastor Roger Calendine officiating.
