Mary Edith Houck of Sparta died on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at her home. She was 62. Mrs. Houck was born on May 4, 1951, in Ashe County to the late Wave Quinton and Blanche Roop Miller. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Houck was preceded in death by an infant child, Stacey. She was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed attending church and was a friend to everyone. Mrs. Houck is survived by her husband, Gary Dean Houck; son, Kevin Houck and wife Morgan of Sparta; daughter, Sherry Reid and husband Rob of Wilkesboro; brothers, Rex Miller of Lansing, Mac Miller of Lansing, and Richard Miller of Lansing; sisters, Marie Calloway of Jefferson, and Thelma Howell of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Charlie Bennett and Minister Danny Miller. Burial will follow in the Pennington Cemetery in Lansing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
