Mary Ellen CasperSeptember 13, 1928 - July 6, 2016Mary Ellen Casper, 87, passed away at Brookdale Chubbuck assisted-living facility, Pocatello, Idaho, on Wednesday evening, July 6, 2016, after a short illness. She had been living at Brookdale Chubbuck for three years. Before June 2013, she was living in Filer, Idaho.Mary was born on September 13, 1928, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to James Matthew Homan and Goldie Maude Butler. Mary grew up on farms near Kimberly, Idaho, and attended schools in Twin Falls County.Mary was wed to Lawrence L. Casper on March 8, 1948, in Portland, Oregon. Larry was born on October 27, 1917, in Omaha, Nebraska. Sergeant Larry Casper served in Company A, 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion, U.S. Army, in the European Theater during
World War II. He was a recipient of the
Bronze Star Medal. He passed away on November 26, 1997, and is buried in the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Oregon.Mary worked almost her entire career as a secretary for various companies in Oregon, California, and Colorado. She retired from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, California. She later worked part time for Black Chapman & Webber, Attorneys, in Medford, Oregon, before moving to Filer.Mary enjoyed bingo, cats, flowers, Fox News, men's golf, pinochle, politics, Steve McQueen, swimming, and Turner Classic Movies. She was a member of Saint Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in Twin Falls.Mary is predeceased by her parents; her only sister, Beulah Beatrice (Bea) Stoddard; her five brothers, William Thomas (Bill), Richard Harold (Dick), David Pete (Pete), James Matthew (Jim), and Charles Francis (Charley) Homan; and her brother-in-law Roy (Bea) Stoddard and sister-in-law Mildred Florence (Bill) Homan. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Fern Hunter (Dick) Homan, Union, Oregon; Wilma Jewett (Pete) Homan, Filer, Idaho; Barbara Gummow (Jim) Homan, Pocatello, Idaho; Barbara Ratliff (Charley) Homan, Buhl, Idaho; and numerous nephews and nieces.The Rosary will be at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, 2466 Addison Avenue East in Twin Falls, on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 161 6th Avenue East with Fr. Mike St. Marie officiating, on Wednesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Eagle Point National Cemetery near Medford, Oregon..The family expresses their gratitude to the residents and staff of Brookdale Chubbuck for the love and wonderful care they gave Mary.
