RamseyDavis, Mary Ellen (Tower),85, of Ramsey, passed away in her sleep with family present on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Mom was born on February 7, 1931, the youngest of 12 children born to the late Roy and Maggie Tower, in Marengo, IN. She was a graduate of Marengo High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from
Indiana University Southeast. Mom started her career as a young helper at the Tower-Merryman general store in Marengo. When she wasn't there, you would likely find her at the Rialto movie theater watching the latest show. After high school, she moved to Indianapolis and landed a position as secretary to the vice president of engineering at Allison Engine Company. She regularly visited her brothers and sisters at Purdue and that is where she met the man who would be her husband of over 60 years, Robert P. Davis. They were married on January 25, 1953 and had four children who miss them both very much. Mom was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, a member of Ouiska Run DAR and a member of Unity Chapel Church. She had a mind for business and started handling the bookkeeping for Davis Poultry Farm and Davis Orchard in the 1970s. Once retired, she and dad spent their winters in Fort Myers and regularly shared their enviable weather reports with us. Mom enjoyed being with friends and family, traveling, music and shopping, and shopping and shopping.Mom is preceded in death by her parents, our dad and her siblings, Howard, Sheldon, Melvin, Archie Norman, Frieda, Thelma, Mildred, Corrine, Annabelle and Martha. She is survived by her loving children, Laura, Cindy, Clay and Nancy Trowbridge (Mike), as well as six grandchildren, Kay, Matt and Libby Trowbridge (Nancy) and Zosia, Marek and Kryzsztof Davis (Clay) and many nieces and nephews.Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 2, at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey, with visitation Wednesday, February 1, from 2- 7 p.m.In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Marengo High School Alumni Association or Unity Chapel Church.
