Mary Frances Morris Gibson, wife of the late Robert L. Gibson, Jr., died Thursday, November 9, 2017, at University Hospital- McDuffie following an extended illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr & Mrs. Ruel I. Morris, Sr. and her three brothers, Ruel I. Morris, Jr., H. Eugene Morris and Pierce A. Morris. Survivors include sons, Robert L. Gibson, III (Marye) and Keith M. Gibson (Jennifer); two granddaughters, Meredith G. Hughes (Chris) and Mary Ashley Gibson; and a great-grandson, Gibson Hughes. Additional survivors include sister-in-law Louise T. Morris and Gladys A. Morris, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibson was born on July 14, 1921, in Appling, GA and graduated from Leah High School. In 1942, she graduated from Georgia State College for Women and taught in Columbia County and McDuffie schools for 32 years. She was a member of Thomson Presbyterian Church and, later, Thomson First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the JOY Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Tri-County Retired Teachers Association as well as the Garden Study Club and The Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, having held numerous offices in both. Graveside services will be held on 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ronny Brannen officiating. Family will receive friends at the residence of Mrs. Gibson on Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family requests memorial be made to the , The or the Chancel Choir Memorial Fund, Thomson First United Methodist Church.
