Mary PeaAbilene , TXMary Gomez Pena, 79, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017. Visitation will begin at 6:00PM, followed by a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral mass will be 10:00AM, Thursday March 23, 2017 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park. Mary was born on March 30, 1937 to Rumaldo & Josephine Gomez in Del Rio, Texas. She married the love her life, Manuel, on December 7, 1956. She spent her life taking care of their household. Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed fishing, making trips to the casino, attending flea markets and collecting antiques. She was very good at gardening and creating ceramics. Her loud infectious laugh will be missed and in our hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rumaldo and Josephina Gomez; four sisters, Dora Jalamo, Victoria Rengel, Elisa Gomez and Christina Luera; three brothers, Fred Gomez, Juan Nunez and Emilio Nunez. She is survived by her husband, Manuel Pena; her one daughter, Risalda Bernard; her four sons, Manuel Pena III and wife Esmeralda, Reymundo Pena and wife Lolly, Jaime Pena and wife Janell, Abel Pena ; 6 grandchildren, Adam Bernard, Denver Gardner and husband Lee, Elena Pena, Anthony Salinas and wife Christina, Sarah Pena and Nic Pena ; two great grandsons, Brady and Royce Gardner; brother, Jesse Gomez and wife Ofilia; and many nieces and nephews.
