WATERLOO — Mary Ann Heitz, age 91, of Waterloo passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. Mrs. Heitz was born on Aug. 2, 1924 in Ege to John and Mary (Green) Lemish. She married Robert M. Heitz on April 27, 1946, in Ege. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1988. Mrs. Heitz was a retired registered nurse. She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1945. She spent her nursing career at Garrett Hospital and McCray Hospital in Kendallville. She retired from McCray only to return to work until she was 78 years old. She was an avid euchre and quidder player. She played several times a week with friends that she cherished. She spent a large portion of her life, supporting and following her children and grandchildren's basketball careers. Traveling around the United States and the world watching them play. She herself even played basketball in high school. Not only was Mary Ann known for her caring ways during her nursing career, she was also well known for her homemade noodles and simmering potpourri. Mrs. Heitz was a friend to everyone. She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Waterloo as well as the St. Michael's Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of Older Americans. Mary Ann enjoyed caring for a large vegetable and flower garden. She loved hosting family dinners and spoiling each one with their favorite dish. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Philip of Arcadia, Florida, Michael and Janette Heitz of Lexington, Kentucky, and Thomas and Carmen Heitz of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a daughter, Rosalyn Miller of Kendallville; six grandchildren, Renee Hood, Bradley Miller, Cory Heitz, Jordan Hurd, Robert Heitz and Thomas Heitz; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher Hood, Tristan Hood, Kylee Hood, Anniston Miller and Hollis Hurd. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Heitz, one son, James Heitz; four brothers, Joe Lemish, Bernard Lemish, Ed Lemish and Peter Lemish; and one sister, Helen Bolton. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016, from 2-8 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St. in Waterloo. A rosary will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday evening. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery in Garrett.
