Mary Hope ShermanGilbertGraveside services will be held for Mary Hope Sherman Gilbert on Wednesday, September 6 at 10:00am, in Shreveport, Louisiana at Forest Park Cemetery. Monsignor Earl Provenza will preside and Reverend Alston Johnson will co-preside. Mary Hope was born on June 16, 1939 to Howard Charles Sherman and Virginia Hope Sherman and resided in Shreveport until her move to Barrington, Illinois in 2007. On January 15, 2011 she was married to Ralph James Gilbert. Mary Hope passed away peacefully on August 5, 2017 in Barrington, Illinois following a long illness.While living in Shreveport Mary Hope was an active member of the arts community. She was a lifetime member of the Shreveport Opera Guild and the Shreveport Symphony Guild. She served as president of the Opera Guild from 1981-1983 and was a recipient of the Beverly Sills Service Award. She was also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames.Mary Hope was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband, Ralph James Gilbert, her brother Howard Theodore Sherman and his wife Susan, her daughter Mary Virginia Hamilton, her son Richard Sherman Hamilton, grandson William Matthew Hamilton and his wife Bonnie and two great grandchildren Charlotte and Timmy.The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Roger Weise, Journey Care Hospice, Karen Miller and for the loving prayers of the Little Sisters of the Poor.The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, 80 W.
