YORK Mary Josephine (Arnold) Martin, "Aunt Jo", 91, passed away on April 1, 2014, of natural causes at the York Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late John W. Martin, who passed away in 1991. Mary Josephine was born on October 14, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Philip J. and Mazie L. (Lau) Arnold. Preceding her in death were her sister, Carolyn E. Landis and her brother, Jack K. Arnold. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda J. Martin of New Orleans and Lois E. Martin of New York; her devoted niece and husband, Dawn; and Morgan Glessner, Doris Simpson, Ruth Fitz, and Vern Martin. Most of her life, she was a vendor at the Farmer's Market, Central Market, and Eastern Market selling local produce and later selling Martin's potato chips. She and her husband owned Martin's turkey farm for over 50 years. She was an avid volunteer with her church, St. Paul's ECC, Wolfs Church, Cherry Reds at the York Hospital in the 1950s, and later in life, she sewed thousands of patches together to make beautiful quilts, which were assembled and distributed around the world through the ministry of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a member of Order of Amaranth, White Shrine, American Business Women, Soroptimist, Farm Women, and Thomasville Seniors. Another passion was watching ice hockey and cheering the Eastern teams. Following cremation, a memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul (Wolf's) Evangelical Covenant Church, 4501 Wolf's Church Road, York, PA with Pastor Matthew Stillman officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Friday at the church. Family services are under the di rection of Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. of Spring Grove.
