Mary Jones Merrill passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 6, 2013, in her Roy, Utah, home, as a result of pancreatic cancer. Mary was born on May 25, 1919, in Wellsville, Utah, a daughter of William M. Jones and Elizabeth S. Hill. She married LaMar Taft Merrill in the Logan Temple on her birthday, May 25, 1943. Her husband, parents, sister Elizabeth Maughn (Merlin) and sister Helen J. Wilcox (Beverly) preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Dr. William LeRoy Jones of Logan, Utah; sister-in-law, Barbara Yeates (Luther) of Logan; and a brother-in-law, Jeddie R. Merrill (Reva) of Logan. Mary has left three sons she was so very proud of: LaMar Taft Merrill (wife Karen) of Greensboro, Ala.; Stephen Merrill (Richard Packer) of Waynesboro, Tenn.; and Lynn Jones Merrill (wife Kristy), of Roy. She has 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mary loved her sons and grandchildren. She was loved by them as well, along with all others she has met. After raising her boys she took a job with the Forest Service at the age of 60, and worked the next 31 years until age 91 in the Mapping Department.She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions. She was an avid fan of Karl Malone, the Utah Jazz, Weber State Basketball, and loved the music of Michael Buble. A special thank you to MaryLou, Amber, Jason, and Dr. Qader of Community Nursing Services. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Roy Chateau Park Ward, 5930 S. 2200 West, Roy. A viewing for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Roy Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 West, Roy, and from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. Saturday, prior to services at the church. Interment at the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, Utah, following the funeral services.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com.
