Mary Katheryn (Cates) Baney, 83MUNCIE - Mary Katheryn Baney (nee Cates), 83, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Signature Health Care after a brief illness.Mary was born on August 22, 1933 in Arba, IN, the daughter of Opal and Albert Runkle and graduated from Milton High School. She moved to Muncie in 1952 upon her marriage to David Baney.She enjoyed being a homemaker and was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Mary was an avid reader and also loved her special pets throughout her life.Surviving are one daughter, Jane Baney Potts Sauer (husband, Joe) of Matthews; one son, Dr. Daniel Baney (wife, Jill) of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Baney Cunningham (husband, Michael) of Oregon, Rebecca Baney Ryan (husband, Chris) of Indianapolis and Logan Potts (wife, Ashley) of Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Franklin Dean Baney Cunningham and Turner Rex Ryan; her devoted sister, Betty Huber; one step-brother, Richard Runkle; one step-sister, Mattie Bowmer; four nephews, John Huber, Keith Cates, Ted and Ned Cates; and her longtime friend, Pat Conn.She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Albert Runkle; her husband of forty-six years, David Baney; two brothers, Phillip and Karl Cates; two step-brothers, John and Albert Runkle; and step-sister, Betty June Runkle.Per her wishes, private graveside services will be held in Tomlinson Cemetery. The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.meeksmortuary.com
