It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Alton, who was born on July 19, 1924, and peacefully left this world on April 17, 2004, in Miami, Florida, United States. She was the beloved daughter of Daniel Floyd and Rossie Aikens Floyd.
On July 15, 1942, Mary married Sanford Alston. To this union, 11 children were born. Shortly after marriage they moved to Miami, Florida. Mary was a loving mother who always wanted the best for her children. Mary and Sanford remained happily married until his passing on March 15, 1987.
Mary was always a motivated person and an independent thinker. Throughout her life, she worked to improve her life and the lives of her family. She worked as a home health attendant in Miami for many years until retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. James AME Church for many years.
April 17, 2004, her Heavenly Father called her home and she heard the voice “Come unto me and rest, lay down thou weary soul upon my breast”. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Alston; parents; three brothers, Daniel Floyd Jr, Larnie Floyd and Louverne Floyd; one sister; Daisy Floyd.
Mary leaves behind memories that will be cherished by; eleven children, Mary (Robert) Williams, Sanford Alston Jr, Bertha Alston, Esther Alston, Daisy Alston, Thiretha (Kenny) Davis, Harold Alston, Richard Alston, Lorraine Taylor and James Alston; two brothers; Thomas Floyd and Ralph Floyd; one sister, Pecola Floyd; 51 grandchildren; 174 great grandchildren; and many many more other relatives.
