Mary Lou Locke98, passed away at 7:08 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Cornerstone Hospice Care in Winter Park, FL with her family by her side. She was born on January 20, 1919 in Henryville, IN to Louis B. and Lily Anna (Bolly) Smith.Mary Lou graduated from Henryville High School in 1937 and went on to graduate from Ball State Teachers College in 1939. She finished her Bachelor's Degree at St. Francis College in Fort Wayne and her Master's Degree in education at Indiana University. Her teaching career spanned 26 years before retiring in 1984 from Homecroft Elementary in Perry Township. She was best known for teaching reading, cursive writing, and reciting poetry, especially Hoosier Poet James Whitcomb Riley. On February 18, 1939, she married Don J. Locke. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before he passed away on April 28, 1994.She is survived by her 3 children: Fred (Pam) Locke of Seffner, FL; Joy (Javier) Chiappo of St. Petersburg, FL; Penny (Phil) Rohleder of Orlando, FL. There are 4 grandchildren: Jennifer Harvey of Raleigh, NC, Amy Massenburg of Kissimmee FL, Patrick (Genypher) Eden of Winchester, VA, Marty (Lauren) Rohleder of Clermont, FL. Three great grandchildren: Nathan Cornett of Cape Canaveral, FL, Hazen Eden of Winchester, VA, and Ezra Rohleder of Clermont, FL.She has two surviving siblings Irene Carter of Muncie, IN and Roscoe (Janet) Smith of Henryville, IN.Preceding in death are her siblings Anna Lee Smith, Ida May Morris, Cora Rebecca Kersey, Alice Jean Bringer, Helen Maria Calvin, and Betty Jo Smith.Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home in Henryville on May 13 2017 at 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow. Brother Lonnie Mattingly of North Harrison Baptist Church will be officiating. Following the service, the burial will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the Mt. Zion Cemetery or the Salvation Army c/o Adams Funeral Home 209 S. Ferguson St. Henryville, IN 47126.
