NEUSTADT Mary Lou (Applebee) Neustadt, age 89, died on September 28, 2016 at Saint Luke's Hospice House following a fall at her home. She was born on May 23, 1927 in Kansas City. She attended Barstow and Southwest High Schools and graduated from Greenbrier Women's College in West Virginia. She married the love of her life, James C. Neustadt in 1947, and they were married for 45 years before his death in 1992. Mary Lou and Jim raised their family in South Kansas City where Mary Lou was active in the Center School District PTA and supportive of the family business, Burstein-Applebee. Mary Lou was involved in The Young Matrons of Kansas City and the Sister City Commission that established the relationship between Kansas City and Seville, Spain. Mary Lou, Jim and their daughter, Terry Neustadt, owned a local retail business, The Coffee Selection, in Oak Park Mall, Overland Park, Kansas for nineteen years. She was preceded in death by her father, Merrill Applebee, mother, Mary Applebee Weinberg, and husband, Jim Neustadt. She is survived by Jim Neustadt, Jr. of Valle Crucis, North Carolina, Bill Neustadt (Debbie), and Terry Neustadt of Overland Park, Kansas. She leaves five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. At her request, there will be a private family graveside burial. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the professional and caring staff at Saint Luke's Hospice House.
