WASHBURN,Mary Lou RouthMary Lou Routh Washburn, 90, of Austin/Spicewood, Texas passed peacefully on October 23, 2016. She was born on November 2, 1925 in Ballinger, Texas to Oscar Ralph Routh and Betty Forrest Miller Routh. She is survived by one brother Albert Melvin Routh of Austin, her son John Washburn and his wife Susie Brown of Austin, her daughter Mary Darby and husband Byron Darby of Austin, grandsons John Darby of Houston, Scott Darby and wife Heather of Atlanta, Carlton Washburn of Austin, Max Brown and wife Kim of Austin, and great grandchildren Andrew Darby of Atlanta, Camden and Blakely Brown of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband Carlton F. Washburn, sisters Francess Johnson and Virginia Scott, and brothers Ralph Routh and Forrest Routh. Mary graduated from Ballinger High School and moved to San Antonio where she attended St. Mary's University and became a geological draftswoman for the oil industry. She raised her family in San Antonio along with her husband Carlton Washburn. In 1992 Mary, fondly known as Grams, moved to Austin and lived with her daughter Mary and son-in-law Byron Darby and her two grandchildren John and Scott for 23 remarkable and wonderful years. She was very devoted to her grandchildren and attended soccer games, football games, piano recitals, scout functions, tennis matches, and was beloved by the Westlake Tennis Team. Grams made delicious apple and peach cobblers, was an avid bridge player and Dallas Cowboys fan. She was known for her spunk and determination, interest in others and their lives, love for her family and kindness and acceptance of others.
