Mary Louise Bowling, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at St Joseph Home for the Aged, in Louisville. She was born on April 28, 1924, in New Haven. Her life was dedicated to the care of the elderly. She cared for her father, Nick, until his death in 1965. She soon joined the Little Sisters of the Poor and served in several homes in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, returning to Louisville when the St. Joseph Home opened in 1991. At the St. Joseph Home she oversaw the activities in their craft room and took great pride in the rose garden. When she retired in 2008, she enjoyed the Kentucky Derby, bingo, day trips to the casinos and church picnics. She enjoyed watching all types of sports. Best of all, she loved her card playing group.She loved the Little Sisters, their caring staff, their loyal volunteers and all the residents. She loved the Christian atmosphere and family environment the home provided. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Nicholas Bowling and Mary Irene Boone; four brothers, the Rev. George K Bowling, Martin Bowling, William Paul Bowling, the Rev Robert A Bowling; two sisters, Sr. Mary Janette, OSU; Marietta Blandford; and a sister-in-law, Anna Rose Bowling.Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Marguerite (Martin) Bowling and Rosanne (William Paul) Bowling; 20 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great nephews.Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Little Sisters of the Poor, 15 Audubon Place, in Louisville with burial in St. Catherine Cemetery in New Haven, at about 1 p.m.Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, and 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, until time of the service.
