HODGE, MARY LUCILLE SIDNER - age 89 of Knoxville, died peacefully at her home, Monday, July 27, 2009 following a brief illness. She was born on November 4, 1919 in Madison County, Ohio to the late Howard and Eva Brown Sidner. Mary attended the Mechanicsburg, Ohio High School and Wittenberg University before becoming an elementary school teacher in Champaign and Franklin Counties in Ohio and Knox County, Tennessee. Mary was a longtime member of Church Street United Methodist Church where she was president of the Women's Society and a member of the Murphy Builders Sunday School Class. Mary was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter AH, the Friday Book Club, Akima and Omni. She was a 4-H Club Leader, a Life Master Bridge player and a golfer having belonged to Deane Hill Country Club and Fox Den Country Club. Mary enjoyed photography, knitting, quilting, reading and keeping in touch with her extended family and a host of friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edwin, Robert and William and sister Dorothy. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Donald Hodge; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Fred Forte of Prescott, Arizona, Barbara and David Yeary of Lakeland, Florida and Julie and Larry Britton of Charlotte, North Carolina; son, John Hodge of Knoxville; grandsons, Michael (Zhewei) Hamlin of Lansing, MI; William Moore of Hawaii; granddaughters, Cathy Hamlin with USAID in El Salvador, Kristin (Jeremy) Saum of Lakeland, FL, Mollie (Jason) Simpson of Bartow, FL, Maryanne Yeary of Cumming, GA; Anna (Konstantin) Sternberger of Reilingen, Germany. She was very proud of her great grandchildren, Skyler, Eleanor, Dexter, Iona, Emily, Levi, Ellie, Tanner, Wiley and Charlotte. Mary is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Patti Hodge, Gene and Priscilla Hodge and Jim and Louise Hodge; a very special cousin, Sara Witt of Columbus, OH; three step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service, 11:00 A.M. Friday at Church Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Andy Ferguson and Reverend Cabel Trent officiating. A private interment will be held following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends may donate in Mary's honor to Church Street United Methodist Church, 900 Henley Street, Knoxville, TN 37902 or to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Hospice, 1924 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920.
