MARY EILEEN MULLEN, 100 OREGON, Wis. - Mary Eileen Mullen, 101, of Oregon, Wis., formerly of Shullsburg, passed away peacefully at Oregon Manor in Oregon, on Thursday, April 18, 2013. Eileen was born on March 23, 1912, in rural Shullsburg, to James Idris & Mary "Mae" Eliza (Tippett) Palfrey. She married Thomas Emmett Mullen on April 21, 1928, at the Presbyterian Church Rectory in Galena, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1983, after 55 years in marriage. They farmed together in the Shullsburg area until retiring to Gratiot. Eileen then worked as the head cook at the Gratiot Elementary School, retiring at the age of 70. She lived her entire life in Wisconsin; at the Cuba City Apt. and since March 2011 at Oregon Manor. A very feisty lady and very proud of the fact she was able to take care of her own apartment until the age of 99. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg since the early 1940's, Lafayette County Homemakers, a 4-H leader. She enjoyed feeding her cats, making clothes, Wheel of Fortune and loved to cook, but most of all, she loved time spent with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Eileen is survived by her children, 2 daughters: Lola Hannah of Galena, IL and Mae (Alfred) Smith of Freeport, IL; a son, Gerald (Barbara) Mullen of Stoughton, WI; 9 grandchildren: Bill (Cheryl Graber) Look of Mineral Point, WI, Jim (Michelle) Hannah of La Mesa, CA, Matt(Ann) Smith of Mt. Horeb, WI, Kelly (Dean) Davis of Edgewood, NM, Kerrin Burns of Freeport, IL, Sheila (Mike) Kiddy of New London, WI, Tawny Mullen of Paris, TN, Kevin (Renee Shirley) Mullen of Portland, OR and Kirk (Kristen) Mullen of Wappingers Falls, NY; 3 step-grandchildren: John (Naomi) Hink of Brookfield, WI, Dr. Carrie (James) Allison of Portland, OR and Matt (Tammy) Hink of Rolling Meadows, IL 13 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dolly Palfrey; special friend, Theresa Murphy of Mt. Horeb, WI; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; sisters and brothers, Gladys Harwick, Gerald Palfrey, Fred Palfrey, Leah Rowe; Gwendolyn in infancy; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Ralph "Buck" Rowe, Clarence & Edgar Mullen, Melissa Kittoe and Elizabeth Hilliard; son-in-law, Jack E. Hannah; grandson, J. Thomas Hannah. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 22nd, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg, with Pastor Dan Verdegan officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Shullsburg. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday. The Haudenshield Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Cuba City is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, a Eileen Mullen Memorial Fund has been established.
