Mary E. Nicholson, 96Hadley - It is wonderful to remember someone who left this World having made an indelible impact on so many friends and family.Mary E. Nicholson, 96, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2017, at the Elaine Center Hadley. Mary was born on July 14, 1920, the daughter of the late Sarah and John Jaskoviak of Oxford. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband James K. Nicholson and her beloved son Brian B. Nicholson. She was a resident of Oxford until the early 1990's when she moved to Brewster to enjoy her dream and live near the ocean.Mary was a graduate of Oxford High School where she was Captain of the cheerleading squad and Editor of the school newspaper. As a stay at home Mother, Mary was very involved in her children's activities and many of her own. A member of the Oxford Methodist Church, she sang in the church choir for many years, and was also a participant in the Oxford/Webster Rhythmic Choir. She loved music and had the exceptional talent of playing the piano by ear.Mary was a member and held offices of the Oxford Garden Club, Women's Club and Women's Society, a member of the Clara Barton Chapter No. 63 Order of the Eastern Star, the Sacarrappa Tennis Club and the Brewster Tennis Club. She enjoyed playing tennis until age 90! She was a talented baker, winning first place for her 5 layer lemon coconut cake. Her other talent was oil painting. Many of her family members have a beautiful piece of art proudly hanging in their homes.Mary is survived by her devoted daughter Judith N. Davis and her husband Bill of South Hadley; her son James M. Nicholson and his wife Paula of Brewster; and her sister Ella McCullough of Auburn. She leaves her grandchildren Brian J. Nicholson, James L. Nicholson, Stephen S. Nicholson, Beth Ann Nicholson, Heather Vaz and her husband Alford, Todd Nicholson and his wife Amy, Heidi Nicholson, Jeffrey Davis and his wife Careyanne, and Susan Davis and her husband Mark. She also leaves several great grandchildren who were deeply loved by their Gram. Her two dearest friends, Catherine Simonsen and Dorothy Leone will miss her very much as will Ruth Nicholson and Roger Briggs. The family would like to thank the staff at The Elaine Center Hadley, for their warm love and compassionate care given to their mother. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or a . paradisfuneralhome.com
