April 23, 1922 - Oct. 29, 2016 Mary Patricia Roach (Pat) passed away on Oct. 29, after a very full life of 94 years. She was surrounded by family at her home in the University Retirement Community in Davis earlier in the day and died peacefully in her sleep that night. Pat was born on April 23, 1922 in Hansen, ID to George and Mary Bender. She was the youngest of four children. She moved with her family to Davis where she attended grammar school, then moved to Woodland where Pat met the future love of her life and husband, Jim Roach, in 3rd grade. Pat graduated from Woodland High School in 1940 and attended UC Berkeley until her education was interrupted by the war. Pat and Jim Roach were married in 1941 before his deployment with the Marines to Okinawa. After recup- erating from severe injuries suffered in the war, Jim returned to complete his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley and law degree at Stanford University. Pat and Jim then returned to Woodland to make there home, bring up their family and establish Jim's law career. Pat was a busy homemaker raising her family and the various family pets. She particularly loved playing golf and games with her husband, family and friends, gardening, home decorating, traveling and participating in various community groups. After her three children were grown, Pat obtained her realtor's license and enjoyed helping her clients find homes in the community for almost 25 years. Shortly following Jim's retirement from the Yolo County Superior Court bench, Pat and Jim sold there home of 50 years and moved to the University Retirement Community in Davis where they met many new friends and Pat continued playing bridge for many years. Pat often remarked in her final years that she "feels so lucky and spoiled to be here". Pat will be dearly missed and long remembered for her kindness, love and courage. Surviving Pat are her three children, Eileen Frost of Davis, Ann Montgomery of Palmdale and Brian Roach and wife Rosemary of Nevada City. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Nola (Scott) Schneider of Saratoga, Frances (Brian) Anfenson of Sacramento, Emily (Adam) Taylor of Arbuckle, Maureen (Aaron) Robinson of Charlotte, NC and Laura Roach of Los Alamos, and four great grandchildren, Anna and Katie Schneider and Alice and Malcolm Robinson. Pat is preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Mary (Harvey) Bender; brother, Clark Bender (Bud); sisters, Ruth Reiff and Betty Lasher, and grandson, John Morris. Family and friends are invited to share a get-together on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m., at the University Retirement Center, 1515 Shasta Drive, Davis, to remember Pat and how she touched each of our lives. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pat's memory to the Yolo Hospice.
