Mary S. SchwingWaynesboroMrs. Mary S. (Searl) Schwing was born on November 24, 1917 on Staten Island, NY. She died on December 30, 2016, at the age of 99, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Schwing was the wife of Merritt F. Schwing who died February 1988. He was a former NYC school teacher. The Schwings' moved from Staten Island, NY to Chambersburg in 1976 living in Kensington Heights. For the past 19 years she has lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Waynesboro. She was the daughter of Thomas D. and Eleanor V. Searl of Staten Island, and was the last of six brothers and sisters.Mrs. Schwing graduated from Curtis High School and Brandon Stevens Business College. She worked for Chase National Bank on Broad Street, NYC, prior to her marriage. After marriage she worked for JP Morgan and Company, on Wall Street, NYC.While living on Staten Island she was active in volunteer work. One of her greatest interests was the NYC Reading Program. She was also chairman of the Arbutus District of Girl Scouting.After moving to Chambersburg she volunteered at Shook Home, Meals on Wheels and Catholic Charities.Mrs. Schwing was an avid reader, bridge player and enjoyed being around people. She would always say "she never met a stranger".She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen S. Grove (husband, Carl) of Waynesboro and Christine S. Randon (husband, Thomas) of Middleburg, VA; three grandsons, Dr. James A. vanDyke (wife, Elke) of Columbia, MO, Paul M. Randon (Pauline Perez) of Brooklyn, NY and Matthew D.Randon (wife, Kristin) of Falls Church, VA; three great-grandchildren, Per and Inga vanDyke of Columbia, MO and Elliot Randon of Falls Church, VA. It was her wish that there be no public viewing. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at New Dorp Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.Mary enjoyed nature and the water, therefore in lieu of flowers and cards, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Antietam Watershed Association, P.O.
