Mary Adeeb ShihadehMrs. Mary Adeeb Shihadeh passed away peacefully of old age at her home in South San Francisco, California on November 18, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born on December 18, 1924. Mary grew up in Ramallah, Palestine and graduated from the Friends Girls School. She started her career working for the British Mandate Government in Palestine, followed by work as secretary of the Governor of the District of Ramallah under Jordan, and finally worked as secretary for the Friends Boys School. Mary was very active in women's affairs and with a group of like-minded young women established a monthly magazine in the 1950's called "Fatat-Alghad" ("Women of Tomorrow") which she edited.Mary immigrated to the US from Ramallah in 1969 with her (late) husband Adeeb and their three children and settled in South San Francisco where they established successful businesses beginning with School House Grocery & Deli. Mary is survived by her three sons, Bassam, Romel and Ghassan; daughters-in-law Sahar and Nancy; and four grandchildren, Iyad, Adeeb, Nader, and Serena. Services will be held at St. George Orthodox Church, 399 San Fernando Way, San Francisco. On Tuesday, November 22nd, there will be a viewing at 6:00 pm and a service at 7:00pm. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at Greek Orthodox Memorial Park Cemetery, 1148 El Camino Real, Colma.
