Mary Stefanou Galanides Virginia Beach - Mary Stefanou Galanides passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2016, at age 87. After a short time apart, she is reunited for eternity with Pete, her husband of sixty-six years.Mary was born on June 7, 1929 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Steve and Tessie Stefanou. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Pete, daughter Sylvia Ann, grandson Stephen Michael, sister Evdokia, and brothers Leon, Steve, and Teddy Stefanou. She is survived by son Pete Jr. and wife Elaine, daughter Stephanie, son Jerry, grandchildren Matt, Andrea, Peter, Lauren and Lindsey, brother George Stefanou, sister Diane Gause (Rickey), beloved in-laws, and her many nieces and nephews.Mary received her RN from N.C. Baptist Nursing School at Bowman-Gray in Winston-Salem. She met Pete at an AHEPA dance in Greensboro. They married in 1950. Their love has been an inspiration to her family and a paragon of love and devotion for their many friends and acquaintances. Together, they created a home full of love and warmth, where all were welcomed, fed, cared for, and appreciated. Together, Pete and Mary raised a family. Together, they traveled the U.S. and Europe. They walked countless miles on the beach at Sandbridge, together then, now, and always.Once again our family is deeply appreciative of the caregivers at The Memory Center. Special thanks to Sandra Mente and to all those who have blessed our family with their service and attentiveness.The family welcomes friends and family to visit and pay respects at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel on Monday, November 7th, with Father John Manuel, Father Constantine P. Rogakos and the Rev. Father George Bessinas conducting a Trisagion at 6:30 pm. The family will receive friends following the service. A funeral service will be conducted at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Tuesday November 8th at 11:30 am with Father John Manuel, Father Constantine P. Rogakos and the Rev.
