Mary M. TownsendMANSFIELD: Mary M. Townsend, 73, of Mansfield passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Mary was born on July 2, 1943 in Mansfield to Frederick Darrel and Mildred Irene (Boner) Smith. Mary attended Mansfield Senior High School and worked at Fuji for eighteen years. Mary was a devoted wife, affectionately referred to by her husband as "Peanut", and showed unconditional love as a mother and grandmother. Mary loved having her family around for quality time together. She was a "kid" at heart who enjoyed playing video games on the computer and on the PS4. A woman with an amazing sense of humor and who loved funny stories, always saying "Oh that's too funny." She could be found cruising Park Avenue on a warm summer afternoon. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, crocheting, cross stitch, embroidering, reading, dancing, singing and watching movies. Some of her favorite singers were Celine Dion, Celtic Woman, The Carpenters, and Patsy Cline just to name a few. Her favorite movies were Gone With The Wind, Sound of Music and anything with John Wayne.Left behind to cherish Mary's memory are her husband and soul mate, Rick Townsend; her mother, Mildred Smith; her children, Allen Kasner, Pat Kasner, Karen (Richard) Myers, Becky Howard, Janet (Colin) Dickson, Peggy (Rick) Rhinebolt, and Lewis "Bumper" Thoman; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Smith; lifelong friends, Joyce Hurley and Margie Carver; numerous nieces and nephews; and her seven kitty "children". She was preceded in death by her loving father, Frederick Smith; a brother, Lewis Smith; and a grandson, Deven Baab. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. A funeral service conducted by Rev. Carl W. Cunfer will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mansfield Memorial Park.
