Mary V. Lunde, age 72, of DeMotte, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Mary was born on September 25, 1943, in Argos, Indiana, the daughter of Sam and Edna (Myers) Swihart. She was subsequently raised by her adopted mother, Martha. Mary was a graduate of Argos High School and received her BS & MS degrees from Indiana University. Mary formerly taught English in Beech Grove. She developed elementary guidance programs in Langdon, N. Dakota, Gillette, Wyoming, and DeMotte. Mary worked for the Kankakee Valley School Corporation as a Guidance Counselor at the elementary and high school level. Mary was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, the St. Cecilia Sodality and the church choir. She was also a member of Friends of the Library and Circle of Giving. Mary was a former board member of Habitat for Humanity, AAUW, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Mary loved travel, wine, reading, and being with friends. She could find humor in any situation and loved good sarcasm.Mary is survived by her loving children, David (Jill) Wheeler of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mary Kathryn (Jeff) Wheeler of Indianapolis; two grandchildren Caleb and Savannah; sisters, Suzanne (Clarence) Draper of Austin, Texas, Sally (Larry) McKee of Plymouth, Indiana; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Joe Schurger.Mary was preceded in death by her father, mother and adopted mother.Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 from 2 - 6 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Service, DeMotte, with a Rosary Service being held at 2 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in DeMotte on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at 9 a.m. with Rev. Father Dennis Faker officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Habitat for Humanity.
