Mary Winkels, 83, of Le Roy, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society-Comforcare in Austin. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Le Roy, with the Rev. Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Le Roy. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Le Roy with a rosary being recited at 5.p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Mary Carey was born on July 4, 1933, in Austin, to Horace and Cecelia (Thome) Carey. She graduated from Columbus High School "Pacelli High School" in Austin. On Sept. 20, 1956, Mary married Marvin Winkels at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin and together they farmed in the Le Roy area. Mary enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandchildren and expressed her caring and concern by always sending cards and notes to those she cared about. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, was a member of the alter society and also taught CCD classes for many years. She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Le Roy; five boys, David Winkels of Rochester, Joe (Patti) Winkels of Kasson, Michael (Kathy) Winkels of Rochester, John (Barb) Winkels of Alden, Iowa, and Tom Winkels of Riceville, Iowa; a daughter, Maria (Todd) Ladwig of Earlham, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlene Young of Austin, Rose Mary (Keith) Price of Rose Creek, Cecelia (Tom) Winjum of Albert Lea; and her brother, David (Mary) Carey of Brooklyn Park, Minn. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Wildwood Grove in Le Roy. Condolences may be left at Hindtfuneralhomes.com.
