In Loving Memory of Matthew Gitotis
Matthew, a cherished member of the Woodbridge community, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at the age of 64. Known for his unwavering faith and generosity, he faithfully attended services at Bethel United Methodist Church, participating both in person and online. His deep knowledge of the Bible and commitment to sharing its teachings touched many lives, hosting Bible studies in his home for friends and anyone else that wanted to attend. He always opened his home to anyone in need and was happy to help if he could.
A proud veteran who served in the Army, Matthew was also an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast. Despite being an amputee, he ingeniously adapted his motorcycle, demonstrating his resilience and love for life. His battle with cancer was met with the same unyielding positivity and strength that characterized his entire life.
Music was a central part of Matthew's life, with a particular passion for the blues. His stories of classic concerts were a source of joy for him and his friends. He saw the good in everyone, providing unwavering support to those around him. Fishing, beer, and the company of loved ones were among his greatest pleasures, along with the annual park picnic he hosted, bringing together church members and friends for a day of fellowship and fun.
Matthew was an active member of the Dale City Moose, American Legion, and VFW, where he spent countless hours enjoying football, especially rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, and connecting with friends over a beer. His daily phone calls to check in on his friends will be sorely missed.
A friend to the very end, encouraging with positivity and unwavering faith, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loved ones he called his family, known as stepdad, brother, uncle, and granddad. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Mary Mae Giotis and his brother Michael Emmit Giotis. His legacy of kindness, strength, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest easy, Matthew, in the arms of Jesus. You are fully restored and never forgotten.
John 16:22 Therefore, you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.
