A life well lived

Matthew Butcher, born on January 1, 1950, passed away on April 12, 2023, at his home in Harvey, Illinois. He was the beloved son of Dennis and Hazel Butcher, and a loving husband to Tina Smith-Butcher since their marriage in year 31.

Matthew is survived by his children Karen Monroe with spouse Robert Monroe, Kyle Butcher, and Samantha Butcher Nelson with spouse Kevin Nelson, and two adored grandchildren.

Matthew graduated from Thornton High School, and pursued a career as a school teacher, inspiring and educating children for decades.

Matthew was known for his love of music, sports and cooking. He could often be found cheering on his favorite sports teams or cooking up a storm in the kitchen. His infectious smile and sense of humor brought joy to all those around him, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Matthew's passing was due to natural causes. In his honor, his family is requesting that everyone take a moment to dance, listen to music, or simply enjoy a good meal with loved ones.
