Matthew A. Romero, 38, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe. He was born on July 19, 1976, in Las Vegas to the late Telesfor Romero Sr. and Mary C. MartinezHe was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. Matthew was known for his sense of humor, he was always happy and he always made other people happy. He loved to draw and play video games.He was a Catholic, and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas.He was preceded in death by his parents, Telesfor Sr., and Mary C. Romero.He was survived by his mother, JoAnn R. Romero of Las Vegas; daughters, Mandy Chavez and Jennifer Chavez; granddaughter, Phoebe Chavez, all of Albuquerque; brother, Thomas Gutierrez; uncles, Teles Romero Jr., Louie Romero, and Charlie Romero, all of Las Vegas; aunt, Patricia Martinez and husband, Richard; aunt and Godmother, Carmen Martinez and companion, Richard Garcia, all of Las Vegas; Godfather, Ralph Martinez Sr. of Las Vegas; cousins, Tammy Romero, Ralph Martinez Jr., Manuel Romero, John D. Romero, Samantha Garcia and Patrick Martinez; special friends, Casey Jaramillo and Laura Archuleta, numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. Funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday, also at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following serving as casket bearers: Thomas Gutierrez, John D. Romero, David Quintana, Elias Carro, Casey Jaramillo and John Gutierrez.
