Matthew Giraudo Obituary
Nov 07, 1970 - Sep 04, 2020
Matthew graduated from Los Gatos High School with honors in 1988, received his Bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s from Columbia University. He was very smart, witty and quick with his jokes and always made us smile when he did his Happy Dance. He was a great football, baseball and tennis player. Matthew lived in Manhattan, New York for over 15 years working as an investment banker where he retired at the age of 35. He travelled all over Europe and Asia, but spent most of his life in Thailand so he could extend his savings.
We received a call from Thon, Matthew’s girl friend in Thailand, Wednesday, August 17 that he was in the hospital. Susie Giraudo Lambert and I left SFO on Thursday, August 18 and arrived in Bangkok late Friday night around 11PM (a 20 hour flight and 14 hour difference). We took a two hour bus ride to Pattaya, where Matt lived and got to the hospital around noon on Saturday. We met with the doctor and he informed us of Matthew status. Matt’s heart stopped for 10 minutes and then 15 minutes later it stopped for 15 minutes on Saturday morning at 3AM.
Visiting hours for the ICU are from 9AM to 8PM. They clean the patience at 8AM, 12PM, 4PM and 8PM. The doctor makes his rounds at 10:30AM and 6PM. We arrive every morning at 9AM and leave at 11:30AM to go get lunch and get back around 1PM and then we leave at 3:30PM and get back round 4:30PM and then we leave at 8PM to go get dinner. That's our daily routine. The nurses and doctor were amazing.
Thon was kind enough to show us Matt’s haunts when we went to eat lunch or dinner (pictures).
Matthew passed away on Sunday, September 4th and was cremated on Monday, September 12th at the Wat Nong Yai temple in Pattaya, Thailand.
He will be missed. Love you!
