Smith, Matthew J.Matthew "Matt" J. Smith, 46 of Appleton passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 15 in his home. He was born on December 7, 1970 in Bangor, Maine, son of the late Peter G. and "Cookie" Smith. Matt was an avid cook like his father and enjoyed sharing the benefit of his talents with his family and friends. No family event was the same if he wasn't in the kitchen or standing at a grill. He loved his annual trips to Hawaii where he also could exercise his love of photography. Matt was a proud graduate of the 1989 class of Neenah High School. He was a huge Packers fan and when he got the chance he always enjoyed snowboarding, and was a huge video gamer. Matt leaves behind his loving wife, friend and partner: Jennifer (Lotzer) Smith and their beloved kitty, King George II who they lovingly referred to as KG2. Matt is also survived by his sister: Whitney (Chun) Lee and their sons Paxton, Noah and Owen; Jennifer's parents: Helen and Clarence Lotzer; an aunt: Susan (Spencer) Dalby and their children Spen (Beth) Dalby and Neysa (Jeremy) Torrisi and all their children; his uncle: Spencer (Dorothy) Smith and their children: Julie Smith, Debbie Smith, Jimmy Smith, and Steve (Jolie) Smith. His closest family friends include Lynne Gemme, Brian (Melissa) Gemme, Brad (Shelby) Gemme, as well as numerous Lotzer, Verbrick and Jahnke family members. Matt will also be missed by many friends, including all his "Roadies" at Texas Roadhouse, where Matt was a Product Coach. He had special friends at work, including Wes, Chris, Dave, JZ, Bart, and Marshall, and leaves behind his great friends Scott Otto and Lester Zehner. He was preceded in death by his parents Peter Grant Smith and Constance "Cookie" Smith; his maternal grandparents Victor and Cecile Meteyer; his paternal grandparents Spencer Grant Smith and Margaret Smith; and dear family friend Frank Gemme. On Monday, June 26, 2017, Jen and the family invite you to attend a luau celebrating Matt's life and love. The luau will begin with sharing of memories at 11:00 AM sharp at THE CREEKS AT IVY ACRES GOLF COURSE, located at N3594 Market Road, near Hortonville. While greatly appreciated, the family kindly requests that no flowers be sent; rather send cards and kind remembrances directly to the family. Matt was taken from us way too soon. He will be missed but always is with us in Spirit, remembered and loved dearly. For more information or to share a memory of Matt, please visit
