Matthew Derek Susook, 55, passed away on Oct. 7, 2016, in Anchorage, Alaska. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Legacy Witzleben Chapel, 1707 South Bragaw Street in Anchorage. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery, 535 East 9th Avenue in Anchorage.Matthew was born on May 13, 1961 in Kotzebue, Alaska. He got his GED and went to trade school. He worked as a welder, iron worker and in the kitchen on the North Slope and Red Dog Mine. He enjoyed road trips, cooking and hanging out with his friends. He volunteered at Bean's Cafe.His family stated, "He was very kind, giving, loving and protective."Matthew is survived by his mother, Elsie McKinney; his sisters, Danielle Kamealoha and husband Watler and their children, Letrice, Andrew, Audrey; Jonelle Johnson and children, Wilfred III, Laura, Allen, Beatrice and Jaqualine; aunt, Clara Henderson and son, Larry; Rhoda Fox and sons, Eric, Christopher, Derek; cousins, Doninique Susook and Donna Susook; uncle, Patrick Stowell and son, Michael; aunts, Ione Bishop and Mattie Adame.Arrangements entrusted to Legacy Witzleben Chapel.
