XENIA — Mattie (Boots) Wacker Barranco, 75, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014. Mattie was born on October 10, 1938 in Claremore, Oklahoma and grew up in Kendall, Hamilton County, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late Arthur William Wacker and Bonnie Marie Runnels. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Sams Barranco Sr, whom she married on November 16, 1965 in Basel, Switzerland. She and her family lived in many U.S. locations during her husband's career, including Fairborn and Xenia, Ohio from 1979 to 1992. Mattie moved to the Harrisonburg area with her husband in 2008 to enjoy their retirement. Additional surviving family in Harrisonburg include her children, Stephen Sams Barranco Jr. and his wife, Joyce, and Katherine Wacker Barranco; grandchildren, Jessica Barranco , Stephen Sams Barranco III, and Natalie Barranco; and sisters, Margaret Nelson of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Bonnie Bruington of Fort Worth, Texas. She was an active member and volunteer in several organizations, with a great interest in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars.
